From Pallet to Planter

From Pallet to Planter

Well, I have been slacking on blogging lately! Most of you know that I am a first grade teacher. Well, due to all the snow, we have now missed 12 days of school! AHHH! So as a result, the state has said that for every six extra hours we are in school, we will make up one day of school. Therefore, we have added an hour to every school day until spring break! Needless to say, I am exhausted when I get home!! Anyway..... Today I was feeling crafty! I was obviously looking on Pinterest for great ideas for a spring centerpiece for my dining room buffet and I came across some great ones, but this one was my favorite! I saw it and thought, "I can so do that!" So this was my project.
I started with an old pallet that we have had in our basement. It was there when we moved in, so who knows how old it really is! I wanted old-looking wood. I tried (and even worked up a sweat) to get the boards apart! I was terribly unsuccessful. Luckily, my dad stopped over and he had better luck than I did!

After the boards were dismantled, I took one board, some paint, and some stencils and painted the word "FLEURS" (French for "flowers".)

I had my husband cut the small side and pieces then nailed it together. Earlier today, I went to Goodwill and purchased five small glass cups, moss from the Dollar Tree, and live flowers from Wal-Mart. Lastly, I just arranged everything, and I could not be happier with how it turned out. Yes, there is still snow on the ground here in Indiana, but my house now feels ready for spring!
